David was re-elected to Derbyshire County Council in May 2021 having previously been a member from 2009-2013. David is a former regular soldier with 25 years service reaching the rank of Warrant Officer class 2 . After returning to Alfreton, David worked for H M Customs & Excise dealing with Value Added Tax. He then ran his own business for several years . 

Owing to his military service David has become an active member of the Royal British Legion and Chaired the Alfreton & District Branch for many years where he was also the Welfare case worker which enabled him to help the ex-service community through out the surrounding area.

David serves as a councillor for Swanwick at Amber Valley Borough Council. For the past 8 years he has been a member of the East Midlands Veterans Advisory & Pension Committee, which helps Veterans with complex issues supporting and representing them at tribunals on pension issues.

David divorced many years ago and has 2 children and 7 Grandchildren, two of whom are presently at University and it looks like the others may well follow that lead.
