In what has been hailed as the biggest shake-up of youth services in Derbyshire for over 30 years the New Youth Offer has been welcomed by volunteer groups throughout the county.  

Our plans were approved by Cabinet on the 12th June. 

We found out from young people just what kinds of activities they want and where and when they wanted to do them.  Poorly located venues and clubs being run at unsuitable times will become a thing of the past.  

Instead, by working with our partners in the voluntary, community and independent sectors and by reshaping our in-house provision we will provide an engaging programme of activities that will improve confidence and the social skills of Derbyshire’s young people.

We will provide a £250,000 annual grant scheme that will enable voluntary and community groups to provide activities and we will support them with training and advice.  

Activities for young people will be more fairly spread around Derbyshire, giving all young people the opportunity to access youth services, even in rural areas.

This will complement our professional targeted youth service; to ensure those most in need get access to information and guidance so that they make a successful transition in to adulthood.

All this has improved the quality of our services whilst saving £800,000 last year and we are continuing to identify savings to reinvest in Derbyshire’s young people into the future.

In addition, our collaboration with the police, the first of its kind in the UK, that supported a major expansion of the acclaimed and popular Ozbox scheme, has seen a dramatic reduction in anti-social behaviour in many of our communities.
