UPDATE: Local County Councillors’ Grant for Swadlincote’s Bus Park Community Hub & Café
Local councillors who secured a grant of £3,790 from Derbyshire County Council to support the work of the Bus Park Community Hub and Café in Swadlincote have received an update on how the funds are being utilised.
County Councillors Stuart Swann (Swadlincote South Division), Linda Chilton (Melbourne) and Gary Musson (Swadlincote Central) worked to assist the well-established community organisation, which normally hosts a range of activities for local people as well as being open for meals and refreshments. The Bus Park Café, which itself is yet to re-open, also provides a much-valued Meals on Wheels service to local elderly and vulnerable residents and this is now up and running again having been curtailed during the lockdown period.
Cllr Stuart Swann said, “As local County Councillors we know just what a wonderful community asset the Bus Park Café is for people in and around Swadlincote so we were keen to assist with the trustees’ improvement plans. Sadly, like so much else, the organisation’s good work was interrupted by the pandemic and this included many of the upgrade plans but we have now heard things are getting back on track.”
Much of the grant money is being used to repaint the outside of the Bus Park Community Hub and Café building, and the delayed work is now progressing steadily. Some of the funds had already been put to good use in replacing the café’s old florescent lighting with environmentally friendly and economical LED tubes.
On receiving the grant, Wendy Carter, the organisation’s Treasurer, said, “It is wonderful that the local County Councillors continue to support the work of the Bus Park Community Hub and Café and have provided the funds to improve the building for the benefit of everyone that uses it.”
