Cllrs Robert Flatley and Tony King presented cheques to Rev. Christine French to support the Ilkeston Winter Shelter Project based at St. John's Church in Ilkeston. Cllr King gave a donation of £1500 and Cllr Flatley £1100, the money will go to provide vital equipment for the shelter such a thermal blankets and food stuffs for the suppers and breakfasts that the shelter provides to its clients.
Cllr King said "It is brilliant to be able to give support to this community lead project. The shelter has and is continuing to provide an invaluable service to those people in the community who need our help the most."
Cllr Flatley added "The response from the local community to the shelter project has been amazing. Tony and myself were glad to be of assistance by providing grant money to ensure that the shelter has essential supplies to see it through the winter. It has brought out the very best in the community."
The shelter is running until 1st March and plans are being made to continue the project next winter.
