Sawley gets its own Roll of Honour at last!
Derbyshire County Councillor for Sawley Cllr Kewal Singh Athwal has worked closely with Sawley Parish Council Chairman Cllr John Sewell who came up with the idea of having a "Sawley Roll of Honour" to commemorate the ultimate sacrifice made by 105 local servicemen in WW1 and WW2. Cllr Athwal has sourced grant funding of £4589 from the DCC Community Priorities Programme Scheme to support the manufacture and installations of the two bronze plaques. It is fitting that as we commemorate 100 years to the end of WW1 that these servicemen's ultimate sacrifice is publicly acknowledged and recognised by our local residents.
Councillor Kewal Singh Athwal said:
"Both Cllr John Sewell and myself are pleased that we have been able to work together to facilitate this Sawley Roll of Honour so that our local residents and visitors to our area are able to publicly acknowledge and recognise the sacrifices made by local people for our freedom that we enjoy today. We are also grateful to Sawley Parish Council for allowing these bronze plaques to be installed on the Cenotaph"
