STUART SWANN is the county councillor for Linton Division, having been first elected to the County Council in May 2017. At the County Council, Stuart is the Chairman of the I&S Resources Committee and Vice Chairman of the Governance, Ethics and Standards Committee.
Linton Division includes the communities of Castle Gresley, Coton-in-the-Elms, Linton, Lullington, Netherseal, Overseal, Rosliston, and Walton-on-Trent.
Stuart is committed to providing residents and communities with a strong voice at Derbyshire County Council and ensuring the people of our area are represented well on important local matters.
Stuart believes road safety and tackling speeding in our villages are priorities, as is protecting vital rural bus services, and ensuring a regular police presence locally to deal with rural crime. He is keen to protect and enhance our local environment – regularly picking litter and having fly-tipping removed, as well as organising community clean-ups.
He also wants to ensure that there are activities for people of all ages to enjoy. Stuart gained funding for a new roof for Gresley Old Hall enabling it to be used a community hub for many local groups and voluntary organisations.
During the pandemic, Stuart has obtained grants to:
- Help the Bus Park Community Hub and Café to continue to provide its Meals on Wheels service to local vulnerable people.
- Provide kits for Overseal Juniors FC.
- Give funds for the CVS Winter Campaign, which supported the local foodbank.
- Enable Citizens Advice to ensure local people in need received assistance during the Covid-19 lockdowns.
- Assist the community schemes of Gresley Rovers FC and South Derbyshire Boxing Academy.
- Support the establishment of IN Enterprise Hub and IN Work Hub to assist local people setting up new businesses and seeking job opportunities.
Stuart has a proven track record of working hard for residents and local communities. He always responds quickly when contacted and works to resolve residents’ issues as soon as is possible.
