Simon Spencer the Police and Crime Commissioner candidate for the Conservative Party was campaigning in Matlock and Bakewell last Saturday. Supported by more than 15 local people, a festival atmosphere was apparent with balloons, flyers and walkabouts around the two towns. The campaigners sported the now characteristic “Simon Says” T-Shirts that highlight key pledges and slogans of support for the work police do.
Local MP and Secretary if State for Transport Patrick McLoughlin endorsed Simon’s Campaign saying,
“I’ve worked with Simon for many years and he’s a go getter who speaks his mind and makes change happen. He’ll make an excellent Police and Crime Commissioner.”
Simon, from Ashbourne and a former fire-fighter in Derby for over 17 years, now a local businessman and Deputy Leader of Derbyshire County Council said,
“Everywhere I’ve been in the Derbyshire Dales there is huge support for this campaign. It is clear people are beginning to understand what this role is all about. It is a hugely important development and a sea-change that will improve policing and public accountability, and I want to be leading that change for Derbyshire”
