DCC Cllrs Kewal Singh Athwal, Garry Hickton and Wayne Major were approached by Sharon Stansfield of Long Eaton Silver Prize Band who requested grant funding to assist the band to compete at the National Brass Band Championships of Great Britain.
Sharon Stansfield on behalf of Long Eaton Silver Prize Band Said;
“The £3000 grant from Derbyshire County Council will enable us to represent Erewash, Derbyshire, and the Midlands at the National Brass Band Championships of Great Britain!
It has paid for our transport, new music, some percussion items, and we have also been able to purchase uniform items as well. It’s such a boost for us to have local recognition as we are a long-standing community-based brass band with our own training band where we teach people of all ages and abilities free of charge.
We are self-supporting so grants like this make a real difference. We would like to thank once again our local county councillors Kewal, Wayne and Gary”
Derbyshire County Councillor Kewal Singh Athwal Said;

Garry, Wayne and I would like to wish all the band members the very best of luck in the competition and we are sure they will be a credit to Long Eaton and the surrounding area”
